Win32.Conficker.A Worm

January 28th, 2009

I had a very tiring day today — thanks to this win32:conficker worm. I had to scan all 20 computers in my network, including the server, four hours before the café opened. I woke up 5:00 AM — quite a remarkable feat for me, who usually wakes 9:30 in the morning.

It wasn’t until yesterday that I noticed I had been infected by this notorious Worm. It spreads through flash drives by infecting autorun.inf and targets an entire network.

Here’s a step by step guide on how to remove this virus on your network. Read more…

DIY:Basic Trouble Shooting

December 14th, 2008

I haven’t written anything about politics for years now. After Edsa-2 and my short stint in Tinig.com, I decided to stop writing and joining any protest or mass action because I’m afraid of turning into a full-pledged activist. I chose to manage my personal affairs–my future, that is–rather than shout and write about politics and stuff. Because for me, the moment Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took office as President of the country my job was done. But I also felt betrayed [at] how GMA betrayed the spirit of Edsa. But I’m not here to talk about politics; I’m here for the continuation of my article which is about Do-It-Yourself stuff in PC. Save those political stuff in my personal blog which I’m about to launch.

“The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.” – Frank Herbert

I was on a day-off yesterday. I usually spend my free time sleeping, watching TV, going to the mall or visiting my relatives and friends in Novaliches. I spend my free time as much as possible away from the computer. But this time it’s different. A friend asked me to visit his computer shop and see what went wrong. His shop has been closed for almost two months now, and he wants to sell all the 22 units.

“… … When I got out of the tunnel, the view was beautiful.”

Life is full challenges, they say. In our lifetime, we encounter different hurdles in life. Some are easy, and others are moderate. But some are too much for us to handle that we feel like we are being swallowed by a quicksand. It will take more than all of our strength to overcome such challenges in life. But once we win over such trial, we feel satisfied with ourselves.

I work in a small computer rental here in Laguna. For more than four years in this job, the problem I always encounter is how to keep all my computers virus and malware free. Believe me, it’s hard to keep it clean if you are the only one performing all the duties — that is being technician, programmer, system administrator, network administrator, and cashier.(lol)
